apple pickin'

Last Sunday, we woke up with no plans for the day, so we decided to go to an apple orchard for some good old fashioned apple picking!  We settled on County Line Orchard and booked a car for a few hours (we use Maven).  County Line is in Hobart, IN (about an hour from the city) and has lots of fall activities in addition to apple picking - they have a pumpkin patch, cider + donuts, live music, hay rides, and shopping!

This was the first time apple picking and I thought it was so fun!  This particular orchard was a bit picked over in the groves we were perusing (they had other areas though), so we may need to go earlier in the season next year.  But we returned home with a good mix of Gala, McIntosh, Honeycrisp, and Jonathon apples in tow, and immediately made an apple pie!  We have since made homemade apple sauce too.  Both recipes turned out so delicious and were way easier to make than I thought!

Below is a list of other fall activities to get you in the spirit of the season!

-DOWNTOWN-
for drinks, carnival games and a corn maze

Walk through the Gold Coast neighborhood
to see some of the best Halloween decor in the city

- SUBURBS -
for pumpkin picking, a corn maze, pig races and more
35 miles northwest of the city

a charming town with festive activities year round
35 miles northwest of the city

for hiking amongst the fall foliage
95 miles southwest of the city
