paris part II

After a restful nights sleep following our first day, we awoke to the smell of baking croissants wafting up from the boulangerie on the first floor of our apartment building.  It was a quintessential Paris moment and we couldn't resist purchasing a handful of the homemade pastries as we set out on a busy day of sight seeing.

We saw and did some amazing things on our second day in Paris (toured Notre Dame, sipped hot chocolate at Angelina, strolled along the Seine to the Latin Quarter, and had happy hour drinks at Plaza Athénée) but we were in agreement that one of the highlights was spending time in the Tuileries Garden.  The Tuileries Garden is a vast and well manicured park in the heart of the city.  Although it's surrounded by the bustle of the busy streets, the park itself is calm and peaceful.  After a busy few weeks of work leading up to this trip, we really just enjoyed lounging in the chairs by the pond and reveling in the fact that we were finally in Paris and on vacation!

Later in the day, in need of sustenance, we gathered some snacks and rosé and had a spontaneous picnic in a park near the Seine.  One of our friends from college just so happened to be also be in Paris and joined our afternoon fête.  Quintessential Paris Moment #600 of the day!

I spent the entire day in this pleated midi skirt, casual 'Peachy' tee and trusty Converse.  The skirt traveled so well with no wrinkles or steaming needed, and was perfectly comfortable with all our walking in the heat.  My love of graphic tees dates back junior high when I was infatuated with finding quirky truck stop tees.  I love all the cute phrases and kitschy fonts of the ones out now - you can see some others I'm loving here, here, here and here.

That night, we enjoyed dinner and perfect Eiffel Tower views at Monsieur Bleu.  Following dinner, we weren't quite ready to turn in for the night, so we walked to Hotel Ritz on a mission.  You see, our friend that we were picnicing with earlier had told us that Bar Hemingway in the Ritz supposedly has the world's best martini, and once Patrick hears "world's best" anything, he absolutely has to try it (even if it's 30 euros and he's never had a martini before).  As it turns out, Patrick hates martinis and had to choke the whole thing down haha!  I opted for a safer champagne cocktail.  The best part?  It came with an entire pink rose in it.  Even though the martini was a fail, we ended yet another amazing day in Paris conversing in one of the world's most famous and beautiful hotels.
